Job Title:

Strathmore (Sharks) RFC Rugby Development Officer

Location:

Inchmacoble Park, Forfar DD8 1RL

Working Hours:

25 hrs per week (flexibility required). Opportunities to run additional initiatives to extend hours.

Salary:

Salary range £22,000 to £24,000 per annum, pro-rata, dependent on skills and experience. 

Post Status:

12-month fixed term (further extension likely but subject to funding)

Strathmore RFC is situated at the heart of the Strathmore valley in Forfar we are just off the back of recently celebrating 90 years of rugby at Strathmore and as we continue to grow, we have the facilities to match our growth and long-term visions.  We have an expanding youth section with team at 13-14-15/16 and 18s with an expanding girl’s section and on the senior’s side we boast 2 men’s sides along with a women’s squads. We pride ourselves in youth development with a player centred approach developing the person as well as the team, our youth sections have been in 5 regional finals in the last 2 years at 15s -16s and 18s along with a regional league title in 2023.  As we move forward, we are looking for a development officer to help support our plans and growth. 

This opportunity has arisen to support the club in building, development and continued growth of our mini, midis, and youth sections in terms of age specific rugby at all levels.  Also develop and implement plans for improving performance at Minis level and improve transitioning into youth rugby.  The position is central to helping the club meet our strategic goals around youth rugby, long-term player development, and club sustainability. Additionally, you liaise and support the local schools within the Strathmore catchment both secondary and primary schools along with working closely with active schools. This post is employed by Strathmore RFC and works in close collaboration with Scottish Rugby who part funds the role.

 

Key Objectives of the Role: 

       Drive increase in participation at all youth levels inclusive of boys and girls 

 

       Support in performance at all youth levels 

 

       Collaborate with Youth Chairman to focus on player development throughout the club with a particular focus of transitioning into mini, from mini to U13, and support youth players to senior rugby 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Short, medium- and long-term planning and delivery of rugby
  • Co-ordinate and develop rugby programmes for primary schools in the Strathmore catchment cluster and partner secondary school. (Curricular, extracurricular programme).
  • Where needed plan competency development sessions for coaches including coordinating coach education and mentoring programmes
  • Collaborating with volunteers, schools, club coaches, Scottish Rugby, local employers and other external resources to leverage delivery of the programme
  • Form partnerships across schools to improve health and wellbeing inequalities through rugby participation.   
  • Managing and coordinating youth rugby activities.   
  • Measuring and report on number and participation to Committee and funding partners  
  • Working closely with the Scottish Rugby regional manager and in partnership with the local stakeholders to ensure alignment with Scottish Rugby’s strategic objectives   
  • Supporting the development of a sustainable club to provide members, coaches, volunteers and players a consistently great community experience.

 

Key Skills and Knowledge: 

You will be qualified to UKCC Level 2/Aspiring Coaches level, and preferably have S&C qualifications. You will have previous coaching experience and good leadership, communication and motivational skills to work proactively with players, club coaches, parents and volunteers, plus school and club officials. A full driving license is essential. The successful applicant will be PVG checked and will also undertake training as required for this role including first aid training.
